Content Management
Open Source
Up to now you needed a small fortune to implement a content management solution for your company site. High license fees were incurred and the underlying source code was closed, allowing the vendor alone to carry out changes to the product. With the fast penetration of open source software in the market, outstanding content management solutions have emerged that cut license fees down to zero. One such product is
eZ publish.
What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
Content management systems enable non technical people to maintain the content of their website. By saying content we mean any type of displayable or downloadable item; this could include anything from articles, images, documents, video files and even website users. You do not need any software installed on your system to achieve this; you simply make the changes by logging on to a secure area of your site, (no one else can see or access this area) browse through and edit your content. It's that easy!

What are the benefits of a CMS?
The main benefits of a CMS amongst many are:
- enables authors to keep website content upto date continuously without the need for technical or programming knowledge; this includes articles, images, file uploads, site users etc
- enables web content to be version controlled through publish and unpublish mechanisms
- can subject any type of content through a process of approval (workflow) by a user with higher permissions
- can allocate permissions on any type of content (e.g. require a user to authenticate)
- keeps a uniform and professional look throughout your site as authors focus on content only and not design
- look and feel can change very easily and quickly without affecting your content
- articles can automatically convert to pdf
- your changes get stored every time so that you can revert back
